Corps Organisation

The organisation of the Air Training Corp follows that of the RAF. The headquarters of the Air Cadets Organisation is at Royal Air Force College Cranwell. The head of the ACO is a regular RAF Officer, currently Air Commodore Barbara Cooper CBE.

The Corps is then broken up into six regions; Scotland and Northern Ireland, North, Wales and West, Central and East, South West and London and South East. Oakington Squadron is in Central and East region, whose headquarters are at RAF Brampton.

Each Region is divided into six Wings. Oakington Squadron is in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing, whose headquarters are at the TA Centre on Coldhams Lane in Cambridge.

Within the Wing there are twenty nine Squadrons spread all the way from Spalding to Luton.

Squadron Organisation

The Squadron has a mixture of uniformed and non-uniformed staff who are all volunteers. The uniformed staff are either commissioned officers in the Volunteer Reserve (Training Branch) of the Royal Air Force or Non-Commisioned Officers appointed by the ATC. They are supported by Civilian Instructors who bring many specialist skills to the Squadron. The current Squadron staff are as follows:

Officer In Charge - Flying Officer David Williams

Squadron Officers - Flight Lieutenant Philip Starling

Squadron Warrant Officer - Warrant Officer Ken King

Squadron SNCOs - Flight Sergeant Tabs Robelou, Flight Sergeant Alan Starling, Sergeant Jamie Houghton

Civilian Instructors - Charlotte Bone, Sophie Ellingham, Chris Goddard

The cadets are organised into a three flight system (Vampire, Meteor, and Varsity), under the overall command of a Cadet Senior NCO. This structure allows those cadets who show leadership potential the ability to move up the command chain and take on more responsibility as their experience grows.
